The mayor has invited residents and visitors to visit this Nativity scene that recreates points of interest in Roquetas de Mar and other parts of the province such as La Alcazaba

At seven in the evening, the Castillo de Santa Ana opened its doors to the public to host the inauguration of the Monumental Nativity scene, which for the second consecutive year has been set up by the Brotherhood of Cristo del Mar.

The mayor of Roquetas de Mar, Gabriel Amat, accompanied by all the councillors of the Government team, attended the inauguration of this Nativity scene, which was blessed by the parish priest of the Church of Santa Ana and San Joaquín de El Puerto, Manuel Navarro, with the presence of numerous residents who, along with Gabriel Amat, his wife María Pintor and the rest of the councillors, took a tour to contemplate the Nativity scene.

The mayor took the opportunity to wish a Merry Christmas to all the residents of Roquetas de Mar and all those tourists and visitors who spend a few days resting in the city with family and friends. “These are days to be with family, among friends, and I wish you all enjoy days of gathering, friendship, and fraternity,” the mayor emphasized.

The Elder Brother of the Brotherhood of Cristo del Mar and responsible for the assembly, José Gutiérrez Cuadrado, has assured that “it is once again a pride for me to undertake the assembly of the Nativity scene in Roquetas de Mar, which will be visited by numerous residents, visitors, and tourists during the Christmas holidays.” Furthermore, he explained that as in previous years, an effort has been made to introduce some novelty in the assembly of the Nativity scene because “the objective is that each year it has another attraction that captures the visitor's attention, making it different from the previous year,” and he details, “this year the mountain landscape predominates and the city of Egypt has been reinforced with houses and silos.”

Over 2,000 figures

Despite the novelties, the Monumental Nativity scene of Roquetas de Mar maintains its essence of being “inspired by Andalusian airs and emphasizing the main points of interest in Roquetas de Mar and the province.”

The Municipal Nativity scene of Roquetas de Mar occupies an area of 210 square meters, where more than 2,000 figures are concentrated. In addition, its landscape and decorative elements blend traditional settings and elements of biblical passages with points of interest in the city and even other points in the province, like La Alcazaba or historic neighborhoods like La Chanca. Visitors can also admire monuments such as the Castillo de Santa Ana, the old harbor houses, Las Salinas with its dock where salt was loaded, or the chapel of the Virgen del Carmen de Aguadul

The Monumental Nativity scene of Roquetas de Mar will remain open to the public until January 6 during the hours of 11:00 to 13:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00 from Tuesday to Saturday, except Sundays and holidays when hours will be from 11:00 to 13:00. On Mondays, Castillo de Santa Ana will be closed to the public.

The inauguration of the Monumental Nativity scene in Roquetas de Mar was enlivened with the music, voices, and melodies of the Polyphonic Choir of Roquetas de Mar.
