For the first time, a day has been held addressing the origin and tradition of the moragas along with culinary demonstrations and show cooking

The City Council of Roquetas de Mar has organized for the first time an activity within the framework of the celebration of the Moragas that will be held on December 29 on the beaches of the municipality.

The mayor, Gabriel Amat, attended the inauguration of this event which was held this morning at the harbor of Roquetas de Mar.

With this activity, we want to highlight one of the most ingrained traditions of our municipality since the moragas are a hallmark of Roquetas de Mar, a day of coexistence with which we have grown and that we try to maintain and pass on to new generations." He also explained that “the moragas also offer us the opportunity to highlight our fresh products and, ultimately, our gastronomy, which in recent years has established itself as an important tourist attraction of Roquetas de Mar thanks to the quality of our fruits, vegetables, and fresh fish.”

Tradition and gastronomy

This activity began with the celebration of a colloquium entitled “Discover the traditions of Las Moragas” in which the origin of this celebration was addressed, which has been held for decades to celebrate the return of fishermen after several months at sea, where family and friends would wait for their arrival and take the opportunity to enjoy a day of togetherness. An interesting talk that included testimonies from residents of Roquetas de Mar who have been celebrating this festivity on the beach for over 50 years “just as their grandparents and great-grandparents did.”

Next, a cooking and tasting demonstration of “gachas with burnt broth”, one of the typical dishes of the municipality, was carried out by chefs like Rafa Rodríguez, Tolo Castillo, and Patricio Úbeda.

Finally, these activities concluded with a show cooking event titled “The dish evolved to signature cuisine” culminating in a tasting by the attendees of these days.
